When to visit the Moroccan Sahara

Start with the season, then check the conditions for your actual travel dates.

Spring and autumn first

The Moroccan National Tourist Office recommends spring and autumn for the southern desert. Use that as a starting point rather than a promise of comfortable weather on every departure.

Plan for your whole route

A desert trip also crosses other landscapes. Marrakech departures use the High Atlas; Fes routes use the Middle Atlas. Look at the forecast for your starting city, the mountain corridor and Merzouga, rather than checking one city only.

Ask before choosing a camp

Confirm the camp’s actual heating or cooling arrangements, bedding and bathroom facilities. A package label does not establish which amenities are available.

Leave space in your schedule

Avoid relying on an unconfirmed return time for a same-day flight or train. Choose the route and endpoint first, then arrange onward travel with suitable flexibility.
